Wood fuel falls into three main categories; logs, wood pellets made from compacted sawdust for use in specific boilers, and wood chip. Wood chip is created in several sizes and it’s calorific value is determined by it’s particle size, origin and moisture content.
Managed woodland ensures trees are planted correctly and maintained in order to maximise harvests. In the UK, Managed woodlands increase biodiversity by mimicking natural woodland.
The Biomass Suppliers List (BSL) was launched in April 2014, to assess the Green House Gas (GHG) sustainable lifecycle of wood fuel (i.e. logs, wood chip and wood pellet).
From October 2015, participants of Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) have had to meet sustainability criteria to ensure their fuel comes from a sustainable source, as specified by OFGEM. Participants are obliged to use suppliers authorised via the Biomass Suppliers List (BSL) or self-certify.

Woodsure is the UK’s only wood fuel quality assurance scheme which provides suppliers with certification that they are supplying a reliable source of high quality wood fuel that meet EN standards.

The wood we use to produce our chip is all sourced locally, both from privately owned and forestry commissioned managed woodland. Using the Woodsure Assurance methods, all our wood can be traced back to its origin and it’s renewable credentials confirmed.
To produce our chip we feed large logs into our Heizohack HM-10-500 wood chipper to produce P31S M25 specification product.
At this point the chip can have up to 60% moisture content, we load it into an air vented drying system that uses a hot air system to dry it to 30% moisture.
It is then put in dry storage and inspected for both moisture content and size.
Our special configured trucks then take the chip out to our clients.
